Schule

General Information

The Nicolaus-August-Otto School is an integrated school (IGS) in Nastätten which is located in the Blaues Ländchen (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). Everyday around 840 students are taught by around 80 specialists in grades 5-13. The IGS started in 2009 in the old school building of the secondary and dual secondary schools.

Middle School/Choice

The Middle School in Nastätten has got half-day and full-day classes from school year five to ten. Recently there have been sport, music and choir classes which have a focal point. Students have the opportunity to eat in the kitchen, our refectory and go to the library in the afternoons to do homework or learn. Furthermore, if elected, the students can register in project groups and pursue their passion. In addition, the school offers tutoring from the teacher for the pupils and pupils for pupils. From grade seven onwards, pupils are divided into basic (G-course) and advanced (E-course) courses in order to enable them to learn in a strength-oriented way and, if necessary, to promote it. From class ten onwards, there are only e-courses, which are then divided into two performance groups, whereby the concept is the same as described above. For the IGS Nastätten digital is the new standard and we are increasingly focusing on working with electronic devices such as smart phones or Laptops. In order to achieve this, the school is currently setting up a WLAN network for all pupils and has now made the timetable and the class book digital.

MSS (Mainzer Studienstufe)

The Rhineland-Palatinatian high school graduation is called Mainzer Studienstufe (MSS). After completing the secondary level one, you can go to school in the high school level, but only if your grades are sufficient. If you finish the advanced high school level, you will have the A Level /diploma. In German it is called Abitur. At the transition from the secondary school level one, after class 10, into high school level, you can choose your subjects. This gives you more academic freedom. If you move to high school, you will get to know more people and maybe you find new best friends.

The Canteen

The canteen is a very good facility to eat a well-balanced meal. The caterer »Stiftung Scheuern« provides freshly cooked food every day, except on Friday. The menu changes every six weeks and you can choose between classic, vegetarian and light food. The lunch costs 4,25€. Before you eat lunch in the canteen you must become a member of »Mensa Max«. First you transfer money to the account, then you get a chip. In the app you can choose a menu, but Thursday is the last chance to order a meal for the following week.
